Our combo for September is Black Coffee: Al White on fiddle and Elise Melrood on
keyboard. Great musicians, they may treat us to an original tango! The atmosphere
at Mostly Waltz is always friendly and informal. Newcomers are welcome, and everyone
gets to dance.
Waltz Practice
On the first Saturday of each month (with a few exceptions), the
Lexington Traditional Dance Association holds a contra dance in Performance
Hall at ArtsPlace. Preceding this dance, from
7-7:45 in Studio 3B, LVDS hosts a waltz practice session with recorded music. There
is no formal instruction, but vintage dancers will be there to assist one-on-one
if asked. A donation of $1-$2 is suggested to cover the cost of the room.

Balls and Workshops
Richmond, KY - Sept 24, 2010 - Civil War Ball
The Madison County Library is putting
on an 1860s ball, as a follow-up to the reenactment of the Battle of Richmond in
late August. This event is an excellent activity for those new to 1860s social dancing.
There will be seats for those who just want to observe, and at intermission the
Swan Salon Dancers will perform a couple of dances. Best of all, the event is free. There will be a workshop 5:45 - 6:45 at the library,
507 W. Main St., Richmond. The ball is 7:00 - 10:00. Period costuming is optional.

Lexington or Berea, KY - Oct 29-31, 2010 - Waltz Weekend with Richard Powers
World-renowned dance historian and teacher Richard Powers of Stanford University
is coming back to Kentucky for another wonderful weekend of waltzing and other dancing,
vintage and modern. Richard will teach turning and cross-step waltz workshops,
plus a few other dances of his choice. (Pre-requisite: ability to do basic turning
waltz.) There will be a "Silver Screen" costume ball on Saturday night.
This is an opportunity to come disguised as your favorite movie star or other character!
Cost: about $70 tuition for the whole weekend or $10 admission for the ball only.
Homestays available. Registration will open in about a week.
