Mostly Waltz - A Vintage Sampler
On the first Friday of each month, the LVDS hosts a social dance, open to the public,
with live music. Each event includes lots of waltzes, plus an occasional polka,
schottische, tango, one-step, foxtrot, blues, or other favorite dance. There is
instruction from 7:00 to 7:45 pm on a selected dance topic, then dancing from 8:00
to 10:00. The cost is $6 per person per event (students $3). "Mostly Waltz" is in
Performance Hall at ArtsPlace. For more information,
call Danby at (859) 420-6780 or send e-mail to
jan_pearce@berea.edu.

For the June dance we have a new combo called "Mostly Music", but the
members are well-known: Nathan Wilson, Eve Podet, Richard King and David
Atcher. The atmosphere at Mostly Waltz is always friendly and informal.
Newcomers are welcome, and everyone gets to dance.
Note that there will be no Mostly Waltz in July.
Waltz Practice
On the first Saturday of each month (with a few exceptions), the
Lexington Traditional Dance Association holds a contra dance in Performance
Hall at ArtsPlace. Preceding this dance, from
7-7:45 in Studio 3B, LVDS hosts a waltz practice session with recorded music. There
is no formal instruction, but vintage dancers will be there to assist one-on-one
if asked. A donation of $1-$2 is suggested to cover the cost of the room.

Balls and Workshops

Lexington, KY - May 15-17, 2009 - Richard Powers Weekend
We had a great weekend dance workshop led by dance historian and teacher Richard
Powers of Stanford University and his teaching partner Angela Amarillas. 63
dancers attended. We hope to get Richard & Angela back for similar workshops on
an annual basis, perhaps as early as this fall. The dates will be announced as soon
as they are decided.
