Space is limited  Location & Directions  Housing  Contact       About The Waltz Weekend  The primary focus of the workshop will be waltzing, including cross-step waltz and rotary waltz. We will also learn other dances of Richard's choice. The weekend will be held at the Russel Acton Folk Center in Berea, KY (about 40 miles south of Lexington).

  The weekend will start with a class 7:30 pm Friday and conclude Sunday at 1:00 pm. Attendance is by pre-registration only and will be gender-balanced. The only prerequisite for attendance is knowing any form of basic waltz (rotary, cross-step, box, Viennese...). Tuition will be $80, except that a limited number of students may register for $40. Because space is limited to 60 people, we expect registration to fill quickly.

            About Richard Powers  Richard is an expert in American social dance, noted for his choreographies for dozens of stage productions and films, and his workshops in Paris, Rome, Prague, London, Venice, Geneva, St. Petersburg and Tokyo as well as across the U.S. and  Canada. He has been researching and reconstructing historic social dances for twenty-five years and is currently a full-time instructor at Stanford University Dance Division.               Saturday Evening Dance  Deejayed by Richard Powers  The Saturday night dance is included with your weekend registration. Dancers not registered for the weekend may also attend by paying $20 for couples or $12 for singles ($6 for students) at the door. This ball will be proctored by Richard Powers using his selection of recorded music. We will enjoy dances from several vintage eras, from the 1800s to the early 1900s, as well as contemporary music. No costuming is required, but change your T-shirt or leotard for something more dressy and festive. For the greater enjoyment of all, please come with a dancing partner.

To be confirmed, all applicants must pay for the weekend within 7 days of registering. You may send a check to the address below or pay online via the Buy Now button below using a PayPal account or a credit card.  Also, we must be able to match you with another person dancing opposite lead/follow role, so we encourage you to specify a partner on your registration form. If you do not specify a partner, you will be put on a waiting list and matched with a person of opposite gender/role in order of registration. We will notify you when we confirm your acceptance.

  If you cancel before Oct 1, we will refund your fee minus $10. Cancellations on or after Oct 1 will not be refunded.
